Vybz Kartel’s Attorney Is Furious, With Him Being Transferred To ‘GP’, He Believes This Is A Human Rights Violation

Yesterday incarcerated dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel was transferred back to the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, popularly known as ‘GP’ from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre.

The transfer follows an exclusive story done by Fox 5 New York reporter Lisa Evers which was aired on Tuesday. It revealed the recent engagement between a Turkish woman, Sidem Ozturk, and Vybz Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer. However, the deejay’s lawyer Isat Buchanan has denied his client’s involvement in the interview and opined that the transfer, which was carried out by the Caribbean Search Centre, “was a complete disregard of an inmate’s human rights.”

In the interview with Ozturk, she shared that she relocated from the UK to Jamaica to be closer to Vybz Kartel and the two became engaged this summer. The video has amassed almost 300,000 views on YouTube.

Buchanan said that by transferring Vybz Kartel under the current weather conditions could have adverse effects on his health.

“The persons who moved him clearly are not versed in the constitution, and see it as toilet paper. Moving an inmate in the rain and exposing him to pneumonia and any other kind of sicknesses is very unfortunate,” he said. “Usually people are offended when justice is done through the courts and take matters into their own hands, but I always urge people to respect the constitution and persons’ human rights whether or not they are incarcerated. And I say this with no apology.”

“It’s a love story and an album which confesses his love for Sidem, his ‘white Queen’ who came from England, at a time when we lost a queen and we now have a king. It’s really good. I believe even the Minister of [National] Security, if he has an iPhone, should download the album,” said Buchanan.

September 29 marked 11 years since the Any Weather deejay was sentenced to life in prison for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. Buchanan shared that the appeal before the UK Privy Council is still under way and that they are optimistic.

“He has an appeal before the highest court of the land and the matter is progressing and it is in that jurisdiction and we are awaiting,” the lawyer stated.
