Shaggy Readies For Wah Gwaan?!

Image result for shaggyGrammy winning Jamaican artiste Shaggy steps up the promotions for his new album Wah Gwaan?! which is set to drop this Friday, May 10.

Last Thursday the artiste debuted the album’s latest single You, which features Canadian singer Alexander Stewart, on The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS. Shaggy will continue the run on American network television this week with appearances set for ABC’s Good Morning America on Wednesday. This will be followed by performances on Live with Kelly and Ryan on May 14, and Strahan & Sara on May 17.

The artiste who won the grammy this year for Best Reggae Album for 44/876, a collaboration with British rocker Sting, has constantly described Wah Gwaan?! as his most personal album to date. the project features 14 tracks and comes with a slate of who’s who producers including Tony Kelly, his brother Dave Kelly, Shane HoSang, Dwayne Shippey, and Martin Kierszenbaum.

Image result for shaggy dancehallIn an interview with the Jamaica Observer , Shaggy reiterated the personal nature of the project.

“Dis a Shaggy. Dis is the first solo Shaggy album in about six years. It goes back to what Shaggy does. That music that is always against the grain,” he explained. “Mi get a little bit more personal on this album. Talk about some things of a personal nature an’ highlight some experiences that I have gone through. But it have dancehall an’ it has crossover appeal. It’s really a hybrid. I’m the ‘King of Hybrid’. I’m the guy who creates music that is always on a different edge. I’m not status quo, I don’t like cookie-cutter stuff.”

The album combines dancehall tracks such as Caribbean Way, Frenemy, Ketch Mi Up, and Money Up which is a collaboration with Noah Powa. He also collaborated with dancehall’s it girl Shenseea and Grammy-nominated American vocalist Stacy Barthe for Super Natural. There is also Body Good with Nicky Jam; Use Me and Makeup Sex, with Nyanda formerly of Brick and Lace; Wrong Room, You; and When She Loves Me, featuring Rayvon.
