Tommy Lee Sparta Court Date February 3, For Gun Charge

Tommy Lee Sparta - Not A Badness - December 2016 [WBT Exclusive] - YouTubeDancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta will return to court on February 3rd where he will answer to illegal gun and ammunition possession charges in the Gun Court division of the Home Circuit Court.

Sparta’s case was heard today, but he remains in custody. It was not immediately clear if his lawyers had attempted to secure bail for the Blessings artiste.

The case was heard in camera, that is, in private, and in particular, took place in the private chambers of a judge, with the press and public excluded.  “The cases are being held in camera so I cannot say much,” the normally effusive attorney at law Donahue Martin told DancehallMag.

The Ghetto Cry deejay, who has had several run-ins with the law, is being represented by Martin, along with Queen’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson.

The deejay, whose real name is Leroy Russell, was arrested on December 14 by members of the JCF’s Specialised Operations unit after a Toyota Mark X motor vehicle in which he was travelling was intercepted on Holborn Road, St Andrew, searched.  A firearm was found in his waistband.

The firearm, a 9mm pistol, also contained an extended magazine with 18 rounds of ammunition.

Sparta was charged the next day and may face up to 5 years in prison for the offenses.

Leaked prison video, which emerged over the Christmas holidays, showed Sparta in good spirits as he danced while fellow inmates cheered him on.

He is best known for the songs such as Unda VibesSoul Reaper, and Blessings and recently appeared alongside Popcaan and Masicka in the official video for Unda Dirt.
