Happy Birthday Bob Marley!

WE MARK Bob ‘Tuff Gong’ Marley’s 72nd birthday today with some throwback videos of the legend’s top 10 best-selling UK singles.

Marley’s untimely death happened when he was 36, after the development of a cancer in the singer’s body which manifested itself in a big toe that he refused on religious grounds to let doctors amputate. Marley’s dead body was flown from Miami to Jamaica and was subsequently buried in his home town of Nine Mile in the parish of St. Ann.

Just one indicator of the impact he left on the world was the fact that his eulogy was read by then Prime Minister Edward Seaga, who said:

“His voice was an omnipresent cry in our electronic world. He was an experience which left an indelible imprint with each encounter.

“Such a man cannot be erased from the mind. He is part of the collective consciousness of the nation.“
