Charly Black Humbled By International Achievements

Following his historic appearance on the Wendy Williams Show last week, dancehall artiste Charly Black continues his impressive international run.

The entertainer was one of two Jamaicans who performed at the recently concluded Summer Jam Festival in New Jersey.

The entertainer told THE WEEKEND STAR that it was his first time performing at the event and he was happy to have had the opportunity to bring dancehall to a crowd of over 80,000.

“We got a great reception from the crowd. The time frame was not enough and the fans were asking for more, but we got the chance to do the monster hit song, Gyal Yuh A Party Animal. It was a great feeling and a major experience for Charly Black representing dancehall and waving the Jamaican flag.”

Charly Black became the third Jamaican to surpass the 100-million plays mark on Spotify with his single, Gyal You A Party Animal. It is the first dancehall record to accomplish this, and Bob Marley and Shaggy are the only other Jamaican artistes to achieve the feat.

HIT SONG

“From the first time I got that rhythm from Kurt Riley in the Island Grill car park in Half-Way Tree, Twin Gates Plaza, I told him I was gonna give him a hit song. I knew this song was going to be big, but I never thought it would be this big. God is in control,” he said.

Many have been describing the entertainer as the man who is bringing dancehall back to the mainstream. Humbled, he said he only focuses on putting in the work and not necessarily on becoming ‘the face of dancehall’.

“If they wanna say Charly Black is the person a dem fi say it … I’m not going to go on my social media or anywhere and say that, though. I’m still the country boy from Trelawny and grateful for everything.”

The entertainer also told THE WEEKEND STAR that work has already begun on some follow-up projects as he doesn’t believe in being a one-hit wonder.

He, however, did not go into any details, stating that the projects are still in their early stages.
