Siblings Elliot and Natalie Bergman from Wild Belle have been playing music together since they were kids. Always inspired by reggae music, the duo put together five of their favorite tunes for the ultimate reggae playlist.
1. “Fever” by Junior Byles
This song helped inspired a “Fever”-like song on their upcoming third studio album.
2. “Dreamland” by Della Humphrey
“One of the really interesting things about Jamacian music is that there are all these really incredible versions,” explains Elliot. “If it’s a great song, a lot of different artists will record it.” Humphrey’s take on “Dreamland” holds a special place for Wild Belle as it’s the first song they both fell in love with. It also was the inspiration for the title of their second album.
3. “Fisherman” by the Congos
“The Congos have these really beautiful vocal harmonies,” Elliot says of the track.
4. “What Does It Take (to Make You Love)” by Alton Ellis
Alton Ellis is one of Natalie’s personal favorite artists so including him on the playlist was vital.
5. “Sugar, Sugar” by Bob Marley and the Wailers
“You can’t have a reggae playlist without Bob Marley,” says Elliot. This choice is an odd one though — a cover from the fictious band, The Archies. “It’s romantic and kind of heartbreaking,” Natalie explains. “When you listen to young Bob Marley sing, he makes me cry every time.”
