Kelissa McDonald’s new Spellbound project is an 11-track collaboration between the singer’s own label, Anbessa Music, and Natural High Music.
Kelissa told The Gleaner that the project is one that explores different themes of womanhood, spirituality, sensuality, roots culture and knowledge, and self-awareness.
“It’s for the listeners to discover. Every time I listen, I get a different definition of ‘spellbound’,” she said.
“It’s kind of a majestic project,” she continued. “There are things I haven’t really done before; combinations of new vocals, chants that act as transitions and different elements of dub.”
Included are known tracks like Best Kept Secret and How Many More. The project also consists of exclusive tracks, including Wake Up and Live, featuring Jesse Royal, Take Your Time, and Spellbound, the title track for the project.
Some of Spellbound‘s notable musician collaborators include Nambo Robinson on trombone, his son Nnamdi Robinson and Wayne Armond on lead guitar, Kazemde George on saxophone, and Hectar Lewis on percussion. The project’s mixing engineers include James ‘Bonzai’ Caruso, Jamar ‘Chronixx’ McNaughton, Claude ‘Weakhand’ Reynolds and Gregory Morris.
