On a hot Saturday afternoon in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, the Church of the Resurrection was filled with family and friends gathered to bid their last farewell at the thanksgiving service for the life of dancehall artiste Delmark ‘Delus’ Spence.Delus, the brother of successful dancehall artiste Konshens, on the night of June 22, 2016, in an act that shook the dancehall fraternity, took his own life.
“There will be no more sorrow,” came the sad warble as family member Joyce Reid delivered the first of three tributes to the late entertainer. She was followed shortly by songstress Sherita, who sang a soulful rendition of Lamb of God.
“Your daddy is sleeping,” Peta-Gaye Spence said in her spoken-word tribute to Delus in a show of support for his two young daughters. “Keep talking to him.”
Several members of the music fraternity, including Voicemail, Twins of Twins, Criagy T, and Stacious, among others, came out in a show of support to the family.
Novelette Williams Brown tearfully shared the eulogy, describing Delus as quiet, creative and a shining example of the fact that talent and humility can walk hand-in-hand. She said that there are those now who wish they had paid more attention to the deejay’s musical career, declaring that though he is gone too soon, it’s better late than never.
