Dancehall giants and former arch-rivals Beenie Man and Bounty Killer are set to deliver a high-energy performance when they grace the Digicel Unplugged online concert series this Sunday to connect with fans and celebrate 19 years of Digicel.
The ‘golden birthday’ celebration will be streamed live on Digicel’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages – @digiceljamaica – beginning at 5 p.m.
A golden birthday is a rare occasion when the date of birth matches the age – in this case, turning 19 on the 19th.
Even as Digicel and the two dancehall icons playfully acknowledge that ‘outside naah keep’, Digicel Jamaica’s Chief Marketing Officer, Nasha-Monique Douglas, promises that the indoor event will be an unforgettable experience.
“This is definitely the most anticipated Digicel Unplugged event so far, and we are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring good dancehall vibes to all corners of the earth this weekend,” she said. “We share a long and successful history with these two well-accomplished living legends of Jamaican dancehall, so to have them join us to celebrate our golden birthday makes it even more special to us and our customers.”
The two Grammy Award-winning dancehall juggernauts are expected to reel off some of their most memorable tunes from their extensive musical catalogues.
Online concertgoers will be reminded why Beenie Man is recognised as one of dancehall’s greatest when he takes them down memory lane with hits like King of the Dancehall, Girls Dem Sugar, and the catchy number Who Am I.
Known internationally for his captivating performances, Bounty Killer will also showcase his impressive repertoire of hits that include the Anytime, Heartbeat and Cellular Phone.
The concert is the third in a series of online entertainment events designed by Digicel to keep everyone close while socially distant during this time. The first was on March 29, which featured Jesse Royal, Dre Island and Jamila Falak, while the Easter Sunday edition showcased the uplifting voices of Kevin Downswell and Jody Kay James.
