Dancehall artiste Popcaan is not in trouble with the law despite a video that is circulating on social media and YouTube that seems to suggest otherwise. Popcaan, whose real name is Andre Sutherland has since said that he is disappointed that the video is being used to damage his career.
In the video police are seen pulling over Popcaan and another man, however no gun is seen but the rumors that went viral indicate the Unruly Boss was locked up for possession of an illegal firearm. Popcaan’s lawyer, Bert Samuels, explained that one of the people in the video who was in the car had a gun but it was registered and legal.
“Now people look wah a gwaan. Me hear say dem ketch Popcaan wid gun,” a woman says in the video.
There may be a defamation lawsuit in the works as Samuels said that the video was being used to tarnish his client’s reputation.
Samuels explained Popcaan’s situation to the Jamaica Star. He said Popcaan’s friend declared that he was a licensed firearm holder and then police asked everyone travelling in the vehicle to exit while they conducted checks.
He said they: “looked at and returned and nothing else happened at the scene.”
Samuels added that Popcaan was disappointed with what was being circulated about him and that “an incident free encounter with the police is being turned into a story with no foundation.”
Popcaan addressed the situation on his Instagram page in a short video clip, where he said: “”Yea man, me a watch unu style man. Me see unu a try tarnish me name and dem sittin’ deh man. We outside thou, don’t?”
The video clip was captioned: “Great is he that trust the most high #UNRULY.”
His fans immediately came to his defence.
His sister Annalecia Sutherland said: “Cover him under the blood of Jesus father God, no weapon formed against him shall prosper! God got u Pops, blood of Jesus against who wanna see u fall.”
International Rap Star Drake showed his support as he replied to the post: “Neck frozen nuh ice”.
A fan added: “Gather here let’s laugh at dem#trouble.” Another said: “Father God Ah Lead #UNRULY OUTSIDE .”
